The truth is, all our canvas Tote Bags can take quite a beating.

We stuff them with groceries and goods that spill or leak, we put them on the floor or on the ground and we toss them in the car. For all these reasons, canvas bags need proper, regular cleaning and maintenance.

 Washing Care:

We recommend that you spot was your Canvas Tote Bag.

You will need a clean damp cloth, cold water and some soap.  Wipe the Tote in a circular motion, working the stain out as you go.  Rinse the cloth free of any soap and work the soap out of the canvas.  Once thoroughly cleaned, we recommend that your canvas bag be air dried flat.

If you need to machine wash your Tote Bag:

Set the water temperature to a ‘cold wash’. Cold water helps reduce shrinkage and helps the bag retain its shape. . If possible, you’ll also want to lower the centrifuge speed so it’s gentler on the bag. Higher speeds could damage the bag, making it lose its shape.

Next, you’ll want to add a fabric detergent to the washing machine.  Then, add your canvas Tote Bag. Wash by itself to ensure no colour is transferred from other items.

Once the washing cycle ends, remove the canvas bag immediately.  Leaving it in the washing machine too long can cause mould and bacteria to grow. It can look wrinkled and crumpled. Unfold the bag so it’s open again. Lay it down on a flat surface and use your hands to gently tug on the bag to reshape it.  Then, use your hand to smooth out any wrinkles you see. Continue doing this until your bag looks smooth.

Using a drying rack let your Tote Bag air dry.

***We do not recommend you use a drier. The heat from a drier can cause the bag to shrink, making it lose its shape.
